Marquis Churchwell was tragically murdered in Downtown Nashville on Saturday, July 29, 2024. Marquis came into the life of many during his time at Room in the Inn in Nashville, TN. Despite the many hardships that shaped his journey through his abbreviated life, Marquis had a kind and gentle spirit and a heart of gold. To know him was to love him. Marquis was a teacher, a mentor, and a friend. He had a big smile and even bigger dreams. He was quick to help and encourage others and never hesitated to give his time and kindness. Marquis lit a fire in people who were blessed to spend time with him and will forever serve as a reminder of our "why" to the many people who wrapped their love and support around him. Please help Marquis' Aunt and foster mother provide a celebration of life that honors the gift of his memory and lets Marquis know that he has a forever home in the hearts of those who loved him as he is finally able to rest in peace. UPDATE: His memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 8, 2024, at Cypress Creek Baptist Church located at 14 Falcon Street in Selmer, TN. Visitation will be held from 12:00-1:00 pm with the service immediately following. A Franciscan Prayer: Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love. Where there is injury, pardon; Where there is discord, union; Where there is doubt, faith; Where there is error, truth; Where there is despair, hope; Where there is darkness, light; Where there is sadness, joy. O, Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console: To be understood, as to understand; To be loved, as to love: For it is in giving that we receive, It is in pardoning that we are pardoned, And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. - attributed to Saint Francis of Assisi
