Hi Everyone!  My poor, sweet Piper has been diagnosed with soft tissue cancer. Before I explain everything involved with her treatment, let me tell you about my relationship with her.  Piper is a very special cat to me because of her connection to my mom. In 2024 my mom had been bedbound for over a year. She was always a cat lover, but after she lost her last cat in 2024, she was without a cat for the first time in almost 40 years. In October of 2024, she convinced me to get her a cat, so I went to the humane society to find her the perfect match. Since my mom couldn’t get out of bed, I wanted a cat that would love to snuggle and be very affectionate. Piper definitely fit that description!  The first morning after I adopted Piper, I found her sprawled, fast asleep on my mom and knew I had made the right choice. Piper spent most of her time laying with my mom, giving her comfort in what turned out to be my mom’s final months of life. On May 23, 2024 my mom passed away.  I had been my mom’s caregiver for many years and to suddenly be without her was devastating. Luckily I still had Piper, the cat that meant so much to my mom and now means so much to me.  On June 19th I took Piper to the vet for routine bloodwork. While there, the vet tech noticed a lump on the outside of Piper’s leg. The vet performed a fine needle aspirate to determine whether the lump was cancerous. The results were inconclusive. Not satisfied with that result, I took her to a vet who specializes in oncology. He did another fine needle aspirate and found cancer. Since the tumor is attached to the tendon sheath on her back left leg, removing all the tumor through surgery would most likely be extremely difficult. So I am exploring all treatment options for her.  She has an appointment for a biopsy on Wednesday, July 5th to determine what stage her cancer is at currently. She also has a surgical consult on July 12th to explore possible leg amputation. If amputation isn’t recommended at this time, she would instead go through hyperthermic cancer treatment as well as chemotherapy.  Any treatment option is obviously going to be expensive, but I want to give her every opportunity to have a good chance of survival with quality of life. I hate to ask for help, but this cat means so much to me and I desperately want to help her. Any donation, no matter how small will help me ensure I give her the best chance possible!  Thank you! Laura and Piper
