Hello, My name is Madi and this is my step doggo Opal. She's a pitbull, age 4 who is beautiful, sweet, funny and loves children and small animals, she puts a smile on everyone's face who encounters her (also not the smartest as the story is about to be told). Opal came into my life while dating her father Forrest, even though him and I didn't work out we still live together with our fur babies, even moved states together to keep our bonded dogs (my black chow Morticia) in the same home. Tragedy struck on 7/9/2024 when Opal jumped out of a compact car window with only six inches of window down (like the one pictured) going around 20 MPH which made her land directly on her knee and resulted in a broken kneecap on her left side hid leg. We rushed her to the animal ER at Tanasborne who told us she needs an orthopedic surgeon to repair the break as soon as possible, which will be around 8k or more. I will give a cost breakdown after tomorrow 7/11, but we have a consultation: 6,200K - 8,700K We were faced with putting her down or moving forward with financially changing surgery.. Opal is my baby girl, her and Morticia are best friends, we couldn't imagine putting her down so we are asking for donations to Opal's medical costs. We have already spent about $1,200 so far on ER and medical bills. Forrest and I have never been the type to ask for help or money from anyone, he discouraged me from making this because we have always taken pride in our ability to provide for ourselves however this is a situation we have never imaged ourselves to be in despite saving, planning and being financially smart. We would never consider killing Opal due to something as replaceable as money, we just want to be able to see a way through this as things feel very dark right now. It is horrific to watch our dog in pain or grapple with the fact she may never run, play or walk with her sister again as anyone who knows Opal knows how rambunctious she is. 10k in this economy? I know, we're that serious about our love for her.
