Hello, my name is Crystal! I am seeking assistance to fulfill my dream of attending a field school in Croatia, but the road to get there has been filled with unexpected obstacles. My journey began at California State University, Los Angeles, where I pursued my passion for Anthropology and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts. The pride of making it on the Dean's List was indescribable. During my last year at the university, I applied for a field school scholarship in Portugal, which would have covered all the expenses necessary for this incredible opportunity. However, just when I thought my dreams were within reach, the devastating blow of COVID-19 struck. None of us could have predicted the far-reaching consequences this pandemic would have on our lives. The world went into lockdown, and all field schools were forced to shut down globally. In a cruel twist of fate, I received the news that I was going to be awarded the scholarship just as the plans collapsed. The disappointment and heartache were overwhelming. Becoming a real archaeologist and experiencing the thrill of digging and exploring had been my lifelong aspiration, and it seemed that it was slipping away despite being so close. But I refused to give up on my dreams. Undeterred, I sought alternative means to continue my education. I immersed myself in online learning from professors around the world, hailing from Australia, London, and Spain. Their teachings provided me with valuable knowledge, even though it wasn't the hands-on experience I had hoped for. Amid my perseverance, a glimmer of hope emerged. I maintained strong connections with a few professors, and one of them informed me about a field school in Croatia that will be conducted in August. This IS my chance to finally make my dreams come true, to stand on the precipice of my passion, ready to embark on this once-in-a-lifetime journey. However, there's a significant hurdle I must overcome. The financial burden of travel expenses and school tuition fees stands between me and my dream. This is where I reach out to my community for support. I am humbly asking for any help possible, whether it be a small contribution or just sharing my story with others who may be willing to help. I am filled with deep gratitude for anyone who extends their hand to help me achieve this dream.
