Hi everyone! My name is Sharon Maguey and I’m a twenty-one-year-old, first-generation, Mexican-American, actor and student from North Long Beach, Ca. This past June, I auditioned and got accepted into the Theatre Gap Initiative. This is a seven month college preparatory program founded by Tony Award-winning theatre educator, Corey Mitchell. It is based in Charlotte, North Carolina which means I will be moving to pursue this opportunity. I have received some financial aid that reduced my tuition, but I will be responsible for paying the rest. I’ll be living in student housing, working as an RA, and will be paying for my own rent, and airplane ticket expenses. I work a part time job and have heavy financial responsibilities at home. I come from a low-income family and currently do not have the means to support myself through the move. So I need your help, por favor! I have been working diligently for the past three years to build my craft. Taking acting classes, performing in theatre, and acting on camera have been the places where I've gotten the chance to cultivate my skills and love for the art. As an adult, I’ve acted in eight student films, and a few college productions. Some of the works, that are out, that I'm the proudest of being in include the AFI student film “Pens and Pencils” which is currently streaming on HBOMax (now Max,) and the UCLA student film “On Slauson” which recently got selected to screen at the LA Shorts International Film Festival. I can’t wait to begin my educational journey with acting. This will be an amazing experience to develop new skills, mentorship, community, and overall personal growth. I am currently on a gap year from attending community college, but I hope to soon be attending an acting conservatory or drama program at a university. Anything helps. Whether it be a dollar, a share, or taking the time to read about my journey :) Thank you, God bless, and have a beautiful rest of your day
