UPDATE: gio only made it two days into his treatment, to which we think his body was just too weak to continue fighting. he was dealing with a mixture of both wet & neuro fip and passed in his sleep early in the morning on friday just before andie woke up to give him his next dose of this life-saving medication. we are totally devastated and every little movement feels like trying to lift a hundred pounds while doing it. the hole that he leaves behind is one that really, can't be filled. he was so special, brought such a light to our world. he was the driving reason behind why we continued to rescue, why we formed paws & purrs. we want to fight for all cats & kittens to have the same kind of chance he had. we're taking things a day at a time, so please understand when our responses are slow or we make mistakes. he was so special. so, so, so special & we are so happy to know that so many of you got to see him or meet him -- that you got to see that too. we are still looking to cover the costs of what we spent on his medical treatment, which is a little more than 3K. any excess that is raised will go towards our rescue efforts, medical & home support for all of our current 19 cats and kittens. Hi, our names are Andie and Jasmin, otherwise known as kohiandie and we recently received grim news about our beloved cat Gio. He got diagnosed with FIP and while it’s treatable, the medicine and care is brutally expensive. The treatment plan we have has a 95% success rate. Untreated, and it’s fatal. Etsy recently bankrupted us so the income we are making right now is a fraction of what we used to make. We cannot afford this on our own and we are desperate. Gio was the start of everything we now stand for and why we run our cat rescue. It is so unfair that he is being dealt a card similar to his kittenhood and made to suffer again. We’ve been fighting for him since day 1 and no one could’ve guessed Gio would come down with this deadly disease. Any amount you’re willing to contribute is so greatly appreciated and will only be used for him and only him. No amount is too small. Everything counts. If 560 people donated $10 we’d reach our goal. If you aren’t able to contribute money at this time, share our page with your friends and family. That would mean the world to us as well. Gio's Backstory In August 2019, we found four abandoned newborn kittens. It was our first time fostering, and our first time taking care of such young kittens. They were extremely sick, and our only hope was an unavailable, life-changing drug. It was a race against the clock. Through our network of kind rescue friends, we managed to have a small dose shipped to us. By the time it arrived, Gio was the only kitten still alive. Heartbroken, we spent the next few weeks providing 24/7 care while he recovered. Four years later, we are inseparable! Gio the Miracle Boy Inspired by our experience and with Gio as our “Miracle Boy” mascot, we founded https://www.pawspurrs.co/ a 501(c)3 nonprofit focusing on TNR and feral kitten socialization/adoption. Since then, we have fostered over 40 kittens and successfully trapped, neutered, and returned 35 adult cats to their local colonies. Gio is the best foster-brother any kitten could ask for. He provides round-the-clock love, grooming, and socialization to both humans and kittens. He loves every creature that comes through our door–young or old, sick or healthy, big or small. His story is one of success and a much-needed beacon of light for a tiny kitten. Gio has so much heart to give. On Saturday, July 1st we noticed Gio was acting odd. He was lethargic and wasn’t eating. We rushed him to the ER and after many tests and IV fluids, the vet concluded that he likely has FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitis). FIP is the least understood of all cat diseases. Until recently, there were no treatment options available. Once a cat became symptomatic, there was a 99% mortality rate. Starting in 2024, the UK approved Remdesivir for use– a daily injection (84 doses) and a 95% success rate. Not only is it almost impossible to find in the US, each injection is approximately $25, or a total cost of $2,400. Mirroring Gio’s rough start to life, we are once again caring for him 24/7. While we were able to afford 18 days of treatment beginning 07/05, with over $3,000 of vet bills and more to come, we are desperate to open this LFEBridge for support from anyone who can sympathize. 84 DAY PROJECTION PICS + VIDS OF GIO: HERE COST BREAKDOWN 20 VIALS NEEDED = $2,366.40 So far we’ve bought 4 vials (18 days) = $436 1ST + 2ND VET VISIT = $1.8K 3RD VET VISIT = $166 RE-CHECK VET VISITS: BLOODWORK + VISIT FEE AT 4WKS = $330 BLOODWORK + VISIT FEE AT 8WKS = $330 BLOODWORK + VISIT FEE AT 12WKS = $330 SUB-Q (4 BAGS/ PER WEEK) = $23/BAG (x4) = $92 FOOD (FULL TRAY/ PER WEEK) = $78 CHURUS (APPETITE BRIBE) = $15 TREATS (APPETITE BRIBE) = $15 EXTRA: GABAPENTIN, PREDNISOLONE, ETC. – TOTAL ESTIMATE: $5,522.40 LFEBridge AIM: $5,600 Other ways to donate: Our rescue donation page: here donate via paypal: here @Jasmin-Mayo on venmo Other ways to help: Share our story everywhere you can think of.
