Hello, my name is Serena Piervincenzi and I am the director of the documentary “Cries From Lily Pad Lane: Stories from the Troubled Teen Industry”. The documentary aims to explore the troubling realities of the Troubled Teen Industry while exploring its impact on youth mental health. The Troubled Teen Industry is a network of Residential Treatment Centers, Wilderness Therapy Programs, and Therapeutic Boarding Schools. These long-term residential programs seek to help teens in mental health crisis. These programs are largely unregulated, and abusive. This for-profit industry brings in billions of dollars annually at the expense of the children who reside there. Survivors of this industry, myself included, have thus far been pressured into staying silent, but enough is enough. We are currently in the pre-production phase and seeking financial support to bring this important story to life. At the heart of our documentary are the stories of survivors, myself included, who have experienced abuse and mistreatment at the Therapeutic Boarding School, Lake House Academy. While we will delve into other centers and the industry as a whole, Lakehouse Academy will serve as a central point of this story. Together with interviews from an ex-staff member, parents, experts in child psychology, and politicians advocating for reform, their narratives will provide a powerful and compelling account of the challenges faced by young individuals in these programs. We have already conducted pre-interviews and secured releases for the subjects, allowing us to dive deeper into their journeys during the production phase. To ensure the success of our project, we are in need of additional funding. To cover production costs and bring the film to completion, we estimate that we will need to raise $30,000. This money will be used to rent equipment, provide food and transportation for the team, and legal fees. By unveiling the truth behind the troubled teen industry and amplifying the voices of survivors, we hope to hold those responsible accountable and ensure the well-being of vulnerable youth. Recognizing the importance of our mission, we are actively seeking collaborations with non-profit organizations and groups dedicated to reforming the teen mental health industry. By joining forces with like-minded partners, we aim to bring attention to the need for proper mental health care for young individuals.
