Hi, I am Jacob Lomboy, a Senior at The Jacobs School of Music at IU, and I am majoring in Bassoon Performance. Ever since I started playing this instrument I have wanted to make a career out of it, but unfortunately, the cost of getting a bassoon on my own requires me to pull out tens of thousands of dollars in loans. The bassoon I plan on purchasing is a beautiful 5xxx series Heckel that costs $25,000, a number which is staggering to any non-bassoonist, but is an absolute steal of a price considering most professional quality bassoons cost $30-40k. It's hard for me to ask for help when it comes to money, but doing this on my own seems almost impossible as a full-time student preparing for professional and grad-school auditions. I currently have a bassoon that I have outgrown and has some serious intonation problems, so I have been playing on a bassoon that IU has let me rent from them. Seeing as I can't keep this instrument, and going back to the old one would seriously hold me back, please consider helping me fund this next step in my bassoon career.
