Hi there I’m Kristin. I’ve worked in the veterinary field for 10 years. If you know me you know dogs hold a very special place in my heart. This past weekend my boyfriend, Eric, went riding out in Osceola. After about 2 hours he and his friends saw this sweet boy in ankle deep water. They were able to coax him out with Doritos. Right away the group could tell he was emaciated and favoring his back left leg. Eric knew there was no way in hell he was leaving without that dog. If it’s possible I love him even more for that. Forest got; a bath, capstar, food, and a safe place to sleep for the first time in who knows how long. Our veterinarian was able to see him today. Let’s start with the good news first shall we.. he is heart worm negative and has no intestinal parasites. The not so great news is X-rays indicate trauma to the hip. The doctor suspects he was hit by a car. Forest needs surgery. Femoral head ostectomy to be exact. An FHO, or femoral head ostectomy, is a surgical procedure that aims to restore pain-free mobility to a diseased or damaged hip by removing the head and neck of the femur (the long leg bone or thighbone). With this surgery they expect him to make a full recovery. As you can imagine I was not anticipating this expense. We want to do right by Forest and ensure that the only thing he will know from a human going forward is love. I would never ask unless it was necessary. Every little bit helps. I sincerely appreciate the fact that you took the time to read his story. Kristin
