Hi, Some of you may know that I was laid off from my job about 5 months ago and the job market is currently pretty tough. I started part-time consulting recently but have been living off of my savings since then which has not put me in the best financial position. On Tuesday, July 11th, Bella started suddenly breathing very slowly and not responding. She was taken immediately to the emergency vet where they worked to stabilize her and understand what was wrong, around 9 pm she was discharged to me for the night and I was told to bring her back at 9 am the next morning to be monitored and get an ultrasound so we could find out what was wrong. Early in the morning again she went into distress and started to rapidly decline as I rushed her back to the emergency vet. She spent the morning in triage trying to get her as stable as possible when we found out her abdomen was filled with fluid and she had become septic and gone into septic shock. At about noon we got the call that in her ultrasound they could see something was leaking into her abdomen but couldn't tell where it was coming from and that she needed emergency surgery right now. Since she was in critical condition they warned me there was a very real possibility of her not surviving the surgery. In surgery, they found she had a hole where her small intestines met her stomach that was leaking feces into her abdomen & also needed to remove her spleen due to a mass with a risk of rupturing. Thankfully she did make it through and remained in the ICU in critical condition until Friday night when she could finally support her vitals on her own and was considered stable. She still is unable to eat and needs the support of a feeding tube. Today, Sunday 7/16, she got her abdominal drain removed and walked a little which is great progress. I am so extremely grateful that she has survived this and that the rest of her life will not be affected. I am also so lucky to have had the money to pay for all of her bills up front as the reality for most owners is they can't and have to put their animals down for something that could be fixed but costs thousands of dollars. If you know me or my dogs, you know that they are my literal children and this has been one of the worst weeks of my life. This is hard to ask for help and be vulnerable, but I do need help. I never thought I would be the one on the other side of a LFEBridge but I have spent all of the money I had on saving her, which has totaled $22,000 as of today. I'm not sure how long she will need to stay in the hospital and we are hoping she can come home soon but right now she is paid for through Tuesday, July 18th at 7:00 AM. If you can help us at all, it is so appreciated. For everyone who has reached out to us to send a kind message, been there to support us, or rooted for us from afar we are so grateful and we love you. Love, Brooke & Bella
