Coming from a family where no one has ever completed college, I have always strived to be well-educated to inspire my family and improve the world. I am Emmanuel Mayani, a fresh Magna Cum Laude college graduate from Rwanda. I got accepted by the Harris School of Public Policy at the prestigious University of Chicago with a sufficient financial aid award. I will study Master of Public Policy starting September 2024. As an undergraduate Electrical Engineering student in Rwanda, I studied very hard to become successful upon graduation. However, the high unemployment rate among Engineering graduates in Rwanda distressed me. Engineering curricula are rarely upgraded to link theoretical knowledge to current industry needs. Also, there are few student support initiatives to help students gain technical proficiency and employability skills. Encouraged to resolve the challenge, I founded my university’s first-ever association of electrical engineering students. The association teaches students the profession’s necessary skills the curriculum does not offer. As I designed courses and established partnerships to enhance their readiness, my desire to contribute to the transformation of Rwanda’s Engineering training was reinforced. I am excited to study Master of Public Policy at the reputable UChicago Harris School of Public Policy to gain skills for becoming a policy analyst who implements effective policies for turning Engineering students in Rwanda into employable graduates. I believe realizing the dreams of many Rwandan youths who aspire to become competent engineers is essential to Rwanda’s sustainable socioeconomic growth. I look to raise $ 2,500 to cover SEVIS, Visa interview, and travel expenses. I am reaching out to you because my 5-person family largely depends on me to cover bills, including rent, food, and the continuous treatment of my mother; she has been ill for many years. I do part-time tutoring to help my family survive. So, I am finding it very hard to get the $2,500. That's why I need help from people like you who care and want to make a difference. I humbly ask you to support my dream. Your donation is important to get me to the school that will train me to empower many Rwandan youths to have brighter futures. Your donation will also help me get a quality education for restoring the pride of my family. So, if you support education and want to empower young people from the developing world to uplift their families and transform their communities, then I ask you to support me on this journey. Thank you for giving me your time and attention. I hope you can support me; I appreciate whatever amount you can donate. Also, thank you for possibly sharing my fundraiser with your network. For everyone that donates, thank you for supporting me. Wish you all the best in your endeavors! Emmanuel Mayani
