Hey everyone. My name is Catherine and I’m trying to raise some funds to pay for my dog Duke’s surgery to remove a large cancerous tumor. Duke is my 13.5 shepherd mix who I rescued just over 13 years ago from a kill shelter in Georgia. He has been with me through many trials and tribulations, moved across country in a two door coupe, he’s always ready to snuggle and comfort me. We lost his bonded partner of 12 years, Lucy, last year when she crossed the rainbow bridge. Duke was recently diagnosed with a soft tissue sarcoma on the elbow of his right front leg. The tumor is growing quickly and has grown through his skin and is now exposed. It has to be cleaned and covered at all times until his surgery. This is painful for him and he’s on pain medication to help manage his comfort. He was simultaneously diagnosed with Lyme disease but we caught it very early and he’s responded well to treatment. He’s an otherwise healthy, happy, playful senior pup who loves long hikes in the forest preserves, seeing his friends at the dog park, scaring the pigeons on our city walks, and lounging around the apartment with his bones. Unfortunately, the surgery requires up front payment and it costs $5,000. His diagnosis, consultations, and other needed medical treatment have drained my savings. I have expended all my financial resources and lines of credit, applied for grants, and now am in a position where I’m asking for the help of others to get me financially across the finish line to get my sweet boy the surgery ASAP. I’m happy to provide proof of diagnosis and the procedure estimates to anyone who wants to verify the costs. I am very grateful for any donations and if I somehow raise more than needed, I will donate the remaining money to cover adoption fees at a local rescue dear to my heart and continue the gift of rescue dogs finding a family ❤️
