Our dear friend, Canan Atim, is going through an incredibly challenging time, and we are hoping to provide some relief in her moment of grief and uncertainty. Canan's story is one of love, celebration, and an unexpected tragedy. After seven long years of being apart, Canan's parents, Aziz Atim and her mom, came all the way to Hamilton, ON, to celebrate Canan's graduation. This was a moment of immense joy and reunion for the family, with the prospect of flying back to their home country, Turkiye, together on August 3. However, fate took a cruel turn on the evening of July 31, 2024. Aziz Atim, Canan's beloved father, went out for a walk to enjoy the beautiful Hamilton parks. Tragically, he suffered a heart attack and was found unconscious. A kind-hearted stranger acted swiftly, calling 911 and performing CPR until help arrived. Despite all efforts, Aziz did not regain consciousness and passed away on August 2. The sudden loss of Aziz has left the family devastated and grappling with emotional turmoil. On top of this overwhelming grief, the family now faces the challenge of bringing Aziz back to Turkiye. Unfortunately, Aziz was in Canada on a tourist visa, and his health coverage via his insurance is minimal and unclear what the insurance will cover at this point. This unforeseen financial burden has left Canan and her family in a difficult situation.We are starting this LFEBridge campaign to support Canan and her family during this trying time. The funds raised will go towards covering the expenses associated with transporting Aziz's remains back to Turkiye. As of now, the exact costs are uncertain, but we know they will be significant, given the international nature of the arrangements.
