Hello everybody, my name is Jacqueline and I would like to introduce to you a special lil pup who goes by the name Doug. I, thanks to the opportunity from my school, got the chance to travel to Nepal for two weeks working on research in Dhulikhel. During my stay I noticed the large street dog populations and was told to be careful around the dogs due to the high risk of rabies. Seeing the dogs everyday on every corner broke my heart, especially because most of them have never even had the opportunity to be spayed/neutered or properly vetted and protected against rabies. I also noticed that most of them were stray and street dogs, however the very few claimed are bound to a life chained up to shops or outside, rarely ever being allowed inside the homes. Because of the high prevalence of street dogs, they are constantly ignored, seen as pests and if they do get too close many people will shoo them, throw stones or push them away. Me being the person I am, I find it hard to ignore any animal I see on the street lol, and that’s where Doug comes into the picture. Upon my arrival I noticed this skinny puppy who resided in the area and would sometimes sneak into my accommodation. He was trusting to everyone he met, just looking for love and someone to pay attention to him. We eventually established a routine. I would see him every morning before working in the hospital and when I got home he would be waiting at the top of the hill as we walked up and he greeted everyone with such excitement. Eventually I was sneaking him into the hostel and feeding him anything I could find that he would eat lol. Reality struck that I would be leaving soon and that’s when my great friend got me in contact with many wonderful people who have worked in Nepal and run rescue there. I knew i couldn’t say goodbye to this dog who I grew to love and treat as my own, so with the help of amazing people I was able to get him vetted and he’s now staying at a boarding facility waiting to be sent to the US! The amount of dogs needing help in Nepal is extremely overwhelming, so keeping him there would not be an option unless he was to go back in the streets. I’ve paid for all of his needs so far, however I would really appreciate the help sending him to the US. The cost is estimated to be $2,000 dollars which is beyond my means at the moment. Truly anything will help and I know Doug would absolutely love his new life. He’s deserving just like any other dog to experience the joys of being a puppy! So if you or anyone you know could help donate to this guy or spread the word, I’d be forever grateful.
