A few months ago Barlu, not even 2 years old, started showing signs of lameness, which was heart breaking for such an active dog who loves nothing more than being outside chasing a ball. After numerous x-rays and vet appointments we were finally referred to an orthopedic specialist. Barlu was born with a genetic issue causing his Radius and Ulna to grow at different rates; unknown to us, this caused fractures in both of his elbows. This caused him pain and takes away his ability to comfortably walk, run or enjoy life. Our choice was either let him continue be in pain or pursue surgical treatment. He is due to have arthroscopic surgery in both of his front legs, removing bone fragments (the largest being approx 1mm by 3mm) from his elbow joints. Following surgery he will have PRP injections every three weeks for three rounds, and continued care for likely moderate arthritis throughout the rest of his life. We have been given an estimate that surgery could be up to approx. $7500 and each injection could be about $650. This was a hard pill to swallow especially due to how young and lively Barlu is, we never saw this coming. In our minds it’s 100% clear that surgery and treatment is the only option. There is no other way we would have it. He has been sedated and crated for a few months now and keeping him happy and healthy has been our biggest priority. A number of people close to us (and Barlu) convinced us that it’s okay to lean on the people around, every donation toward his care we appreciate and makes us emotional that people care so much. Thanks for your time, again, we appreciate it. Love, Our little family.
