Hi my name is Jessica and I am a teacher in South Carolina. I have been a teacher for more than half of my life now…this year will be 20 years. I started teaching in South Florida and then after 13 years moved back to South Carolina where I grew up. I love teaching in the small town where I went to school, it is a full circle moment for this girl. Teaching is my passion and has been since I was a young girl. I love it so much that when I moved back to SC I sold everything except my teaching stuff…I packed that all up in uhaul trailer and moved with my family. I just couldn’t part with it, it was years of hand making things and carefully collecting books for my classroom library. Three years ago during Covid I left my teaching job to help my husband with his business and had to find storage for all my things that were stored in my classroom. I decided to place them in a storage area underneath a 100 year old building because let’s face it storage facilities are expensive. This year I was offered a full time position back in the school I started at when I moved to SC after leaving 3 years ago. To say I was thrilled was an understatement but that joy was quickly gone this week when I went to retrieve my beloved teaching materials. I had to throw away almost everything…all the books had mold and water damage. The furniture and rugs were a total loss. I could not even salvage them to clean them because I would not want to take a chance of bringing any kind of mold or mildew into the classroom that might harm the students. I would love to be able to purchase new books, furniture and classroom supplies for my class this year. As many know, almost everything a teacher puts in her classroom is purchased out of pocket. Any small amount or donation would really make a difference and help. We do not make a lot of money but somehow we always sacrifice something to make it happen. I really appreciate any and all donations and prayers. I would love to create a wonderful space for my students to feel safe and secure but also to feel loved.
