Impact Dance is an award-winning art-for-social-change organisation that specialises in Hip-Hop Theatre, Street Dance and Youth Development. Founded by Artistic Director Hakeem Onibudo in 1995, Impact Dance empowers young people aged 11-19yrs through dance training, mentoring, national and international performances. The organisation’s work aims to address the inequality of opportunity to access and participate in dance, particularly by those facing long-term structural and systemic inequalities. We have a once in a lifetime opportunity for 10 of the young people from the Impact Dance Academy to participate in a cultural exchange with students from another continent in June 2024. We have been having conversations with Lyrric Jackson Dance Company (LJDC) who are based in West Midtown Atlanta, since before the pandemic and now we are ready and excited to collaborate with them. They also work with young people to foster creativity, communication skills, leadership and empathy running parallel to the goals of our organisation. This once in a lifetime opportunity represents the possibility for life changing experiences as many of the young people we work with have not left London let alone the UK.
