Marco is a 20-something writer at the edge of a milestone diving board: he’s publishing his first book of love poems. Just as he’s about to send in his final draft, he gets dumped and is painfully reminded of his Achilles Heel: he’s never been in love before. Marco embarks on a journey to rewrite his poems from the perspective of the lovesick. Along the way he wonders, Can a poet talk about love if he’s never had it? Has he ever written from the heart? Okay, so that’s the film’s story, but here’s mine: My name is Lukas Ferreira and I’m a writer and actor based out of Los Angeles! Over the last few months, I started developing something incredibly special, and one that I’m determined to execute: my first short film. I’m so honored to have had the time to put pen to paper and flesh a story out that I’m proud of, and getting together with creatives in my network has been motivating. However, films are more expensive than even I expected. Since beginning to develop the script in January, I have saved up little by little throughout the months to make my vision come to life, but I still need a helping hand. With some more help from people who believe in young artists like you, I think we can make an exceptional film. Great question. I’ve broken down where your help will be utilized: ✨ EQUIPMENT: Cameras, lighting, lenses, etc. All the filming essentials to capture our story on tape. ✨ PRODUCTION: You can’t have a film with all the necessary things you see on a screen! This means some money will be allocated to set design and props. ✨ POST-PRODUCTION: What happens after we yell, “Cut!” is just as important, and we’ll need to hire editors, VFX artists, etc! ✨ FOOD: No, it’s not for when I need to order a pizza after getting too nervous to hit submit for film festivals. This is for food on set, so we can keep the cast and crew going while we’re on our feet all day! ✨ CREATIVES: I’m trying to pay people fairly. This accounts for my incredible director, producers, crew, etc. It takes a village to make a film, and I want to give this village some respect! ✨ FILM FESTIVALS: We don't want to keep our creation to ourselves! We want to submit to as many film festivals as we can, and these submissions cost money! To have the chance to get as many people in front of our film, we need to be able to submit to film festivals. And of course, here’s a timeline: 1️⃣ PRE-PRODUCTION: From now until August. 2️⃣ PRODUCTION: We’re shooting for mid-September (no pun intended, unless you laughed) 3️⃣ POST-PRODUCTION: October through December, give or take. 4️⃣ FESTIVAL SEASON: From the start of January 2024, we’ll begin submitting to festivals! 5️⃣ ACADEMY AWARDS: Just kidding.
