This year Hamro Ekiden fundraising campaign will be supporting the SeeNepal Foundation. We are grateful such a charity exists providing healthcare in rural areas of Nepal. In 2018 “Glasses to Gorkha” was their first outreach, providing free eye examinations to 456 villagers and spectacles to 293 of them. They have also provided free surgery to 69 of cataract-diagnosed patients. Cataract impairs your vision by forming a cloudy area in the lens of your eye which glasses can’t clear vision. Providing such healthcare through volunteering is not an easy task. The team of SeeNepal has done amazing work and are continuously doing so. Their next project is in a remote and isolated district, Dolpa. Poor infrastructure with challenging terrain has left residents with a lack of access to essential and basic healthcare services. For more information about the charity visit: https://www.seenepal.org/ 15% percentage of the total donation will also go towards Folkestone Nepalese Community for providing us the accommodation to carry out the event. FNC objectives are to promote the benefits of the Nepalese and Gurkha veterans residing in Folkestone and the surrounding area. For more info visit: https://fncuk.org/folkestone-nepalese-community-2/ Our fundraising campaign will aim to help the charity to carry out their mission and values. The fundraising campaign is a challenge that consists of a half marathon relay for over 24 hours. Runners will be performing a relay half marathon throughout the day and night. Runners will be running in pairs or in a group. After the completion of the run the ‘baton’ will be passed on to the next wave to start their run. Originally the idea came from Hakone Ekiden. The event is annually held in Japan. Universities from across Japan come to compete in a relay half marathon where 10 runners from each team/universities compete to run a total distance of roughly 220km. This is one of the most unique sporting events which involves combined efforts as a team from everyone. Using this as inspiration we have organised our own event but with a twist!
