Exeter Animal Shelter is in desperate need of generous donations! As many people are aware from the local news stations, 42 guinea pigs were recently found abandoned in the town of Exeter on Wednesday, July 12th, 2024. Details of the events leading up to their abandonment are still under investigation. What is known thus far, is that many of them are suffering from severe neglect with one of the guinea pigs requiring euthanasia due to its failure to thrive. A collaborative effort has been made by several rescue partners here in RI to help care for some of these guinea pigs. Despite their help, the Exeter Animal Shelter still has in their possession 18 of the 42 guinea pigs. The 18 guinea pigs at Exeter Animal Shelter are currently receiving veterinary care services. The extent of the care that is required for each one of them is still being determined. Some of their initial medical needs and treatments have included services ranging from routine (physical exams) to extensive (medications, wound care, hygiene and skin care treatments, dental concerns, and the like). The survival rate for some of these poor babies is in question. A few of them are very compromised and may not persevere without further treatment. The Friends of Exeter Animals is a non-profit organization. It is an organization that exists to provide supplemental funding for services that are not an ordinary expense to the Town. All donations from this fund will be used toward the vet expenses and those listed above for the guinea pigs. Currently the Friends of Exeter Animals are asking for donations from our animal loving community to help save these frail, malnourished, and mistreated guinea pigs. Thank you in advance for your contributions to help save these beautiful, innocent animals. We will post updates as they are received.
