Update: 13th September 2024. Gandalf has had surgery, however he requires medical intervention ongoing, as well as nursing supplies which now includes (bladder device connectors (8-1225 12” right angled connector with Y-port adapter (purple) and syringes added to his medical nursing supply list. It's ongoing and costly. He will still require input from Cambridge Veterinary Hospital, also his vets to ensure that his MiniONE is intact, safe and running smoothly. Please keep donating. Your money is contributing to keeping him alive and well. UPDATE: 6th September 2024. Gandalf has had the second part of his pioneering bladder surgery. It is the second major change towards his recovery. We have a long way to go but it is all positive. He will still require medical care and intervention during this second phase moving forward. Your kind help is STILL much needed, and the donations that have been made, are so appreciated which have made it possible to ensure Gandalf lives. UPDATE: THANKYOU. I would like to thank all of those who have helped, and shared since we began this journey. It's been a long and tricky, and sometimes a stressful time. What you all have achieved has been unforgettable. With all your help, we saved Gandalf from being put to sleep by the Trustees (from January this year) and Muffinpug. We've all worked hard to raise money to give him the investigations (that were refused by the rescue) to determine the root cause of Gandalfs general health issues and Infections. We all got him to the best Veterinary Hospital in the country. Cambridge. He had his MRI, Ultrasound and bloods, fluids, biopsy and discussions with various Specialists in Neurology and Soft tissue surgical department at Cambridge and further a field, with the input from one of the top specialists in the country who designed the low profile device. The outcome was amazing. We achieved a solution. The only one available to let Gandalf have a decent and happy quality of life. We all made his surgery happen, to have his long bladder tube fitted, which will prevent as many aggressive bladder infections and potentially protect his other organs from infections spreading to a minimal. The tube was a trial to see if he accepted an implant without rejection, and if I could manage to make it part of our nursing routine for him. All has been a success. Dr Laura Owen Soft Tissue Specialist at Cambridge has ordered his permanent bladder device. It's a low profile fitting, which is safer for him, plus a discreet bladder stoma. I will still need to empty it every 2-3 hours, and will live the rest of his life with that. I Am so grateful to each of you who've helped in anyway, whether donated, shared, fundraiser or just been there for us. We've made wonderful lifelong friends on our journey together to "save Gandalf". He's now awaiting a call from Cambridge for his next surgery to put in the bladder device. It has already been ordered. His aftercare, going forward, will have its challenges and frequent vets visits so I'm asking for help towards that. Please donate if you can. All our love. My name is Sharlene Hull and I am Gandalfs Mammy. Gandalf will be having the second part to his bladder surgery the middle of this month. His story. Gandalfs bladder has stopped working so he needed urgent bladder surgery. He went to Cambridge Veterinary Hospital where Dr Laura Owen, the soft tissue Surgeon, gave Gandalf a general anesthetic to perform a serious lifesaving operation to put in place a Cystostomy tube in his bladder and through his abdomen almost 5 weeks ago. This tube is temporary which has to be replaced for a permanent fitting. Called a miniONE non balloon bladder low Profile device. This will be the second part to his lifesaving surgery and will be done at Cambridge. Gandalfs story is a sad story, beginning in China, and being saved from a meat market. He travelled to the UK from a long quarentine in Italy arriving in a bad way. Two days in the UK, I became his Forever Fosterer through Muffinpug rescue, where they would pay for all his medical bills. A few months later, they refused 3 critical medical procedures ongoing which was detrimental to his welfare and wellbeing in order for him to have a correct diagnosis and have lifesaving treatment. Through them he only received 6 months of antibiotics and pain relief. Gandalfs condition was slowly changing and deteriorating so the rescue decided that they couldn't pay for his treatment so putting him on death row was the only way forward, without any investigations or a chance of survival. My vet had decided that it was now an animal welfare issue, so I broke away from the charity, and became his owner, and give him the chance he so deserves. To cut a long story short, Gandalf needed urgent investigations to determine what was wrong with him. So I set up a gofund to raise much needed funds to find out what was wrong and to save his life. Investigations were carried out and with Specialists from around the country, the only solution was to install a Cystostomy tube. This boy was a baby in China, dumped and unwanted. He came into our lives and has brought so much joy. I love him wholeheartedly. The cost for this second surgery, plus the ongoing aftercare and vets fees moving forward is costly so this is why I'm asking for help to raise the much needed money for this to take place. Please can you donate and, or share to give Gandalf the best quality of life he so well deserves. Thankyou.
