On Saturday, July 1st, our family received incomprehensibly devastating news--our beloved son, grandson, brother, friend, and spouse, Spencer Reaves, lost his life. No words can express the sorrow and searing pain we feel by his brilliant light and irreplaceable love taken from us so suddenly. Anyone who knew Spencer will speak to his deep and genuine compassion and kindness, his sharp intellect and artistic talents, his quick-witted sense of humor and absolutely infectious laugh. Spencer was the guy to give you the shirt off his back, to check in on you if you were having a hard time, to stick up for you when no one will, to believe in you, lift you up, and put his needs aside for others because that was purely his nature. We are forever changed by this loss and it aches to the core. As we hold each other together, picking up the impossibly heavy pieces, we are faced with the difficult process and great financial hurdles of arranging for a service and burial, per his wishes. We are reaching out to our friends and family, to those touched by Spencer's life, to anyone who is able to show their support in this urgent and utterly heartbreaking time. Funeral arrangements are overwhelmingly expensive--nothing could prepare you for this, but we find ourselves facing it nonetheless. We are planning a modest but proper ceremony to honor and celebrate his life, and we are sincerely grateful for the much-needed and urgent support, financial or otherwise. Anything at all helps. We have set a goal of $15,000 and are hoping to reach that by this Saturday, July 8. So you know exactly how funds will be used, below you will find estimates for these costs. We are still in the process of planning, so the exact expenses may change some. If there is anything left over, we will be passing it on to Spencer's wife to help her work through the long road ahead. Thank you for considering assisting with this, and thank you for taking the time to read about Spencer. He lives on in the countless lives he has impacted, and we feel his warmth and love by our side through every heart-wrenching moment. Itemized expenses: Burial plot - $1,500 Casket - $1,200 minimum Open/close grave - $400 Funeral Home Services - $10,000 Marker - $2,000
