December 26th 2024- As most know our mother passed on December 21st after she got a kidney infection that turned septic. She was scheduled for a bilateral kidney stent on the 29th to fix the blockage in her kidneys to prevent things like this happening. She went to the ER on Tuesday and they admitted her. She became unresponsive, sent to ICU and put on a ventilator all within hours Wednesday. We were called to all come and prepare for the worst. She made it through the night after being told she most likely wouldn’t. She made it through surgery to go ahead and place the stents after being told she most likely wouldn’t. However, the strain on her body, and the already compromised immune system was too much and her heart could not withstand it anymore. Unfortunately her wishes of being donated to The Body Farm in Tennessee will not be able to be fulfilled as they are closed until the New Year and will not take a body after 5 days. We are very quickly having to make funeral arrangements and final resting place decisions which is something we were not worried about before. We are asking if you feel it in your heart to help alleviate those cost to please do so and know we thank you so very much. We also thank you for the support you’ve shown our family since the beginning and the love you’ve had for our mother. Our mom, Carol Scribner, was diagnosed with cervical cancer in February of 2024. As daunting as a cancer diagnosis is, it seemed to be best case scenario and was confined to her uterus. The chemo and radiation were effective in shrinking the tumor. Now in July, we have found out the cancer has spread to her lymph nodes, kidneys, liver, lungs, and more. She is either in for the fight of her life or the end of it. Carol is 72 years old and works at a preschool during the school year. She is of humble means. She is also a widow. She lives in Joplin, Missouri, and has appointments in Kansas City, over two hours away. Because of the intensity of her treatments, she often has to be sedated, and requires a driver. Her kids have been taking turns driving her, but we all are occupied with jobs and raising families. Paid vacation time has run out, and there is a financial burden on us. Carol wants to donate her body to science when she passes away. Her family will be responsible for transportation costs for the funeral home to drive her body to a school of medicine. We are heartbroken watching our mom suffer and thinking about losing her. Donations will be used for travel expenses and end of life expenses. Prayers are also appreciated.
