WRITE UP When she is in her late thirties, Robin suffers the devastating blow of her husband being diagnosed with Huntington’s: a fatal genetic disease that means he will die young, and that each of Robin’s sons has a fifty percent chance of dying young as well. In the face of this unspeakable tragedy, Robin finds herself leaning on her neighbor Sandy, a woman ten years her senior who has a tendency to be a bit of a busybody, has no children of her own, and loves her “wine and her soaps.” Though unlikely, Sandy and Robin’s friendship grows to be defined by a quiet strength that will carry Robin and her sons through loss, addiction, and finally, acceptance. Years later, one of Robin’s sons and a girl that Sandy nannied for would become film makers intent on telling the story of the friendship between these two women. Hunting for Robin is that story. Though it is a fictionalized version of Sandy and Robin’s story, at its heart are the themes of both women’s real lives: motherhood (biological or earned), community, and the strength of seemingly ordinary women. The film also aims to raise awareness for a rare and devastating disease that deserves more much funding and research. To start, the filmmakers are going to film the first nine pages of a script, a section that introduces us to the characters of Sandy and Robin, highlights the love story between Robin and her husband, and shows us the ridiculous way that Sandy and Robin met. To film these scenes, we will be using the actual homes of Sandy and Robin, as well as locations throughout their neighborhood. It is our hope that these nine minutes of film will give the world a taste of our vision, and eventually lead to the resources to film the entire script.
