Jenny ran across the wild lands, into our hearts, and now on to be with God. She was called by Him much too soon for all of us left behind, especially for her husband Cristian and her surviving children, Abbie (22), Tristan (20) and Mateo (10). Let us share our memories of how she touched us with her joyous smile, her vibrant energy, and her passion for life. My name is John Alvarado. I frequently ran in the early mornings with Jenny and Cristian when they lived in California. They helped me train for marathons and shorter races, a passion we shared. One of my favorite memories is when the three of us and Angela Karner raced the 2015 Seal Beach 10k, and each of us won our age group! I was sad to see Cristian and Jennifer move away, but when I visited them from time to time in Colorado, we would always schedule a time to run together again. Jenny’s sudden passing in mid-June due to illness and pneumonia was a huge shock to me and my wife. We had just visited her and Cristian in their Colorado home a month prior, and we had been texting with both of them the week before the terrible news came. Jenny was a model of fitness and so alive with energy and positivity that it was unfathomable that her flame was extinguished. It hurts to think about it. I find some consolation in imagining Jenny reunited with her baby Chloe, who passed at age 5 from SMA, and knowing that Jenny no longer feels the pain of that enormous loss. The pain of loss is only ours to bear now. If you are reading this, I know you feel the loss too. And if you are like me, I know your heart aches for her family and especially for her youngest child, Mateo. Your kind donation here today is for the education and support of Jenny’s surviving children. Please give generously, in loving memory of Jenny Cortes.
