My beloved brother Floyd Ray Bufkin Jr (Butch) passed into eternity July 15, 2024. His life was well spent in service to others, his family, his country, his friends. His 20 year service in the US Army included tours in Korea and Vietnam. He earned the Bronze Star 7 August 1967 for “heroism in connection with military operations against a hostile force, while under simultaneous mortar and ground attack by an undermined size force of Viet Cong. In the initial barrage of enemy fire Lt Bufkin took shrapnel in the lower back and legs. With complete disregard for his personal safety and ignoring his wounds Lt Bufkin moved from position to position to assess the condition and number of casualties in his battery. After directing their removal to the Medical evacuation helicopters he further ignored his painful wounds, and took command, positioning the helicopters for the removal of wounded personnel.” A TRUE HERO. My brother leaves behind his beloved wife of more than 50 years, Regina, their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. After retiring from the Army, my brother and Regina went on to raise their 5 boys as well as foster countless other kids who needed a safe place to grow and call home. Regina is currently in a rehabilitation facility following her hip replacement surgery a few weeks ago. Please keep her in your prayers. As a family, we are now faced with planning and paying for a much deserved Hero’s Farewell. My brother was 82 and no longer had life or burial Insurance. The VA will only reimburse up to $2000 of burial expenses with approved receipts. Disappointing to say the least and not nearly what it cost. But we press on. My brother will be cremated and then interned with Military honors in Grand Junction, Colorado. As soon as we are able to provide specifics on his service I will share those. I am asking our amazing networks of family friends to help us in any way you can by contributing to the cost of the Hero’s Farewell my brother has earned and truly deserves.
