Essy is a 1-year-old orange female kitty. She is one of the most loving cats we have had at Bryson City Cat Sanctuary. She loves to cuddle and she mothers every animal that will let her (kittens, a big hound dog, older cats, she doesn't care). Her second favorite activity after snuggling is playing. Her favorite toys are the plastic balls with bells inside of them. She will play with those for hours every day. Despite being in pain, she doesn't let that stop her from having fun and being a precious cat. She came to us pregnant and with a hurt leg. Shortly after going to her foster home, it became apparent that she had something going on with her pregnancy so she went to the vet. There she was diagnosed with an infection and it was concluded that the fetus was necrotic, so she went in for an emergency spay. She recovered well and was a happy loving girl, but her leg remained to be an issue. Despite a few vet visits, xrays, and multiple pain medications, her leg wasn't doing any better and we couldn't figure out exactly what was wrong with her. Her X-rays were sent to an orthopedic specialist who was finally able to diagnose her with a luxating patella, a ligament injury, and arthritis. This essentially means that her knee pops in and out of place which could have either caused or been caused by her ligament injury. While this diagnosis is good news and the prognosis is also good, it does mean a very expensive surgery is in the near future. We are meeting with the specialist on August 11th when we likely set a surgery date at which time I will include that info. The estimate for the surgery is a whopping $2,400 after a very generous discount by Western Carolina Veterinary Surgery. This surgery will allow Essy to live a normal life that will hopefully be pain-free so that she will be able to chase Jingle Balls to her heart's content without falling or having to stop due to the pain or her knee popping out. Every donation, no matter the size, means the world to us and Essy! Every cent will go to Essy's medical bills and post-op care and any left over funds will go to other cats in need.
