Equal access to education is not only a human right, it’s often the ticket out of the seemingly endless cycle of oppression that women and children are disproportionately affected by. Over a decade ago, I asked the community in rural Uganda I was living amongst, “Who is in most immediate need of intervention and how can I support them?” Their answers were simple and consistent: educate girls of the age "eligible for marriage," who have been abducted as child soldiers and orphaned by the war. It was from there, EDGE was born. Empowering Dignity in Girls Everywhere not only provides these young women with a formal education, we also offer a safe place to live, basic human necessities, medical attention, and the ongoing psycho-social support they need and deserve so that they can have the resources and opportunities to THRIVE. Since COVID, I have been fundraising only twice a year to (often barely) meet our needs: once near International Women’s Day, and the other, near my birthday. Unfortunately, a glitch in Facebook fundraising prevented me from doing the former this year. However, since we are making an extra push toward financial independence and self-sustainability this year, your support couldn’t mean more. 100% of all donations will go towards the healing, rebuilding, empowerment and independence of these young women, each of whom is like family to me. Thank you for standing with us.
