I'm raising funds to help pay for emergency veterinary care for Gi, the kindest, most intuitive mare we have in our equine wellness program. She has an immense amount of patience and love for humans. Gi has helped calm veterans with PTSD, teens suffering from trauma, and abused children. Gi is a protector and mentor for the herd. Gi seeks those who are in grief and shares space with them. I have so many stories about her kindness. I will share just one. A group of teens visited our facility and all went out into the pasture to make friends with the horses. One young girl sat alone crying softly in a chair near me. Gi was grazing in the far corner of the pasture. Slowly Gi drifted toward us, the girl still unaware of her advancement. Gi came quietly up behind her chair and hung her head over the girl's shoulder, gently touching her with her soft muzzle. The girl was still crying and didn't even notice. I told her she had a visitor. The girl looked up and froze. Suddenly she jumped up and threw her arms around Gi's neck, sobbing and holding her close. Gi just stayed with her. When it was time for the group to go, the girl said her goodbyes to Gi, and began walking down the road back to the van. Gi whinnied loudly for her. The girl came back and held onto Gi once again. As she left, Gi continued to call for her, racing down the fence where the girl was walking. I later learned this girl had lost her best friend recently. She felt her friend's spirit was reaching out to her through Gi. It began her healing journey. Gi came up lame in the pasture recently. She had a puncture in her hock joint that had become infected and had to be treated at a veterinary clinic. We rushed her to Rogue Equine Animal Clinic in S. Oregon. Dr. Timmons raves about how golden Gi is and how he trusts her as he is treating her. Gi has to have her wound flushed and powerful antibiotic injections are given daily. We want to bring her home as soon as we can, but if we bring her home too soon, the infection can set back in. Already expenses are over $4200 and 4 more invoices for cultures, treatment and board are expected soon. We greatly appreciate any help from horse lovers toward our veterinary bills. All funds will be used to pay Rogue Equine Animal Clinic and Dr. Timmons for his continual care of Gi until she can return home with us and her herd.
