Update, Leevi’s double hip replacement has been pushed back due to complications with his knees. We are thankfully back on track now and going ahead with surgery this winter. —————————————————— Hi, my name is Jessica. My husband and I recently found out that our dog, Leevi, needs a double hip replacement. Leevi is an extraordinary dog, he’s my best friend, my baby, and the greatest thing to ever come into my life. Leevi is a 5 year old Rottweiler. He got me through an incredibly difficult time in my life, when my brother, Liam, passed away. He is actually named after my brother, who we more commonly referred to as “Lee”, hence “Lee”vi. Leevi brought happiness back into my life after a great loss and I’m not prepared to loose him anytime soon. Leevi developed a limp a little while ago, and after some x-rays, it was evident he had severe hip dysplasia and arthritis in both his hips. The vet informed us that he needed the surgery as soon as possible, so we booked him in at the earliest opportunity. In the mean time, Leevi is on some supplements and pain management pills, they are not a long term alternative, his pain cannot be managed long term and that is why he desperately needs the double replacement. Leevis recovery will not be easy. Each hip has to be done separately, with an approximate recovery of 8-12 weeks between surgeries. His recovery will be extensive and my husband and myself will be taking some time off to accommodate him and make him as comfortable as possible. The surgeries total $18,000, each hip replacement is approximately $9,000. In addition, Leevi will have a long road to recovery and require extensive rehabilitation, which will be an additional unknown expense. The veterinary clinic does not offer a payment plan for the surgeries and that is why we have made the decision to do this fundraiser. Absolutely anything, even a share to spread the word is greatly appreciated by Kyle and I. We want to say a huge thank you in advance for anyone who is able to make a donation or share this post. It means more than you will ever know! We will post continuous updates here about Leevi and his recovery for anyone who wants to follow along. Much love, Jessica, Kyle and Leevi
