Anybody that has interacted with The Iona School will know that the sense of community is strong. The passion of parents, and belief in the methods at Iona are evident. We are a community of parents that believe in a school that supports our children to have emotional stability, intellectual flexibility, sound judgement, inner freedom and social awareness to ensure they have healthy, positive and fulfilling lives. 5 of us from the Iona community have banded together to form a fundraising team. We will be running the Robin Hood Half Marathon on 24th September to raise money for a number of projects at the school including a new composting toilet and shelter on the land so that the children are more able to make use of the A bit about each of the runners: "Last year, I decided to run the half marathon but was so convinced that I couldn't do it, that I kept the entire thing a secret. I had never run more than 5k before, had done no exercise in the past two years and had a caesarian 9 months before the event. I pushed through anyway to prove to myself that I could do it and I did. I don't want either of my children to grow up believing that they can't do it, whatever it is. That's why I'm sending them to Iona. And I want to support this school in any way that I can." - Kirsty "I would be what is best described as a ‘Wing it’ type of runner. I’ve never quite managed to properly train for an event in all the years I’ve been running ( mostly badly and accumulating injuries as well as medals!). This year is no different…. My son actually finished his time at Iona this summer (sob) and the fundraising is my way of saying thank you to a wonderful school and the wonderful staff within it. “ How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard” (A.A Milne)" - Nathalie "I started teaching at the Iona School in January. It is such a special place that helps every child to flourish and truly achieve their dreams. As a child and a young adult, I very rarely did anything I found challenging and stuck to what came naturally to me, limiting myself in the process… Teaching here has been an important part of my journey to overcome this negative mindset and realise that the only thing holding me back was myself all along. I want to support the school however I can. I am learning to love and embrace the challenge and the journey." - Emma "I’ve started setting myself new challenges. Recently did 165 walk which I loved and wanted to do something slightly different. I’ve been running on and off since my early 20s and this seemed like a great opportunity to challenge myself and help our wonderful school at the same time. My 2 older children left Iona in 21, having been at the school since nursery. My son has physical disabilities and the teachers adapted their approach and teaching to ensure he was always included and never felt like the odd one out, it has help make him into the confident young man he is today. For this I will always be eternally grateful" - Ana "Our 8 year old daughter attends Iona School and it's such a special, nurturing environment and the children are so happy there. I have taken up running again in recent years as a way of staying fit on the cheap, and want to do something to help protect and support this wonderful school." - Rachel
