Discover Theatre is a week-long drama day camp catered to children in foster care, their siblings and friends, as well as children from families in need. Discover Theater ran its first camp August 1 – 5, 2016 and its second camp June 20 - 24, 2017 at Holy Cross Catholic School in North Portland. This nonprofit camp was made possible by generous support from OnPoint Community Credit Union, Holy Cross School, and many friends and supporters of Discover Theater. At the camp the kids learn songs, a choreographed dance, and scenes from a show that they showcase at the end of the week for their family and friends. They also create their own sets and costumes as well as learn improv games and acting and singing techniques. Our wonderful volunteers include rising High School and College students with theater experience along with a few professionals who have worked in the business. Our goal is to create a safe learning environment for kids who otherwise may not have the opportunity to learn about the arts. We believe that it is crucial for children to expand their education by challenging their more creative side and we understand from personal experience how beneficial the arts are to a child’s mind and education.Our camp ran wonderfully these past two years and we are excited to be offering the camp again this June! Our camp will be running Monday through Friday June 18-22, 2018 and will be from 12:00pm to 6:00pm. This year we are offering the camp to children in grades 2nd-9th. Right now we are looking for people to donate funds to make this camp possible! Thank you to everyone who helped to make our camp such a success!
