THANK YOU EVERYONE. Every donation was very generous and I am very glad for your help in making this happen. Please join the memorial page on Facebook if you havent already. I will post updates on the bench through there. Thank you again. Derick Mielke was one of my best friends, and I know so many people are lucky enough to say the same thing. Becky Hines had the idea to get a memorial bench in his honour, and since I am in Fort McMurray, I volunteered to get this accomplished. The bench will be located near the street Derick grew up on, making a lifetime of memories with his friends and family. It will also be right by the Outdoor Rink in Thickwood that he spent tons of hours at, as well as the dog park; Derick had a love for all animals as well. It is also very close to Westwood Highschool, which so many of us attended and have a ton of memories growing up there together. Derick was everybody's best friend. He was the funniest guy, so easy to get along with, and made everyone feel comfortable. All the memories I have with him are full of laughter and love. We wanted to create this memorial bench for him as a physical way to honour his memory. To create a spot that people can go and reflect on their time with him, as well as a way to show that his giant heart and personality will never be forgotten. We are looking for help in getting this done. The total cost is $1890, and are asking that if you are able to, please donate what ever amount you are comfortable with to help get us closer to our goal, every little bit will help. I covered $100 to start. Thank you everyone in advance, on behalf of his friends and family. A beautiful celebration of life has already been held in British Columbia, however, the RMWB let me know that it can take 6-8 weeks for the plaque to be created and have the bench installed. I know that a lot of people were unable to make the celebration, and I thought that when the bench is installed it would be a great time to get people together in Fort McMurray to share memories of Derick and to catch up with each other at a local bar for a night. If people are interested, I will make plans and share the details through here or the Memoriall group on Facebook. Thanks again.
