Hi my name is Rebecca – many of you also lovingly know me as Rebe, Becca, Bex :) I have been a full-spectrum doula for 10 years supporting birth, postpartum, childbirth education, pregnancy loss, and abortion. This sacred vocation has been a journey of ongoing education and ancestral remembering: Cornerstone + Roots of Labor Birth Collective Doula Trainings A Cerrar las Caderas with Indigemama Postpartum Belly Binding with Tema Mercado Abortion Support Training with A.C.C.E.S.S. RJ and Bay Area Doula Project Three years of curanderismo and sobadas (traditional massage) practice with Estela Roman And many more to name Even more has been learned alongside the families and friends I have been entrusted to support and witness. Within weeks of beginning birth doula work, I was acquainted with Death at the same threshold as Birth, and then on regularly greeted. I am currently on a doula sabbatical for 2024 and looking ahead into how to grow my community services in these next 10 years. As my own family and household continues to age in place, the need to grow more deeply into end of life planning and death work becomes clearer. Beyond greetings, I am ready to make Death a new acquaintance, embrace an exploration of conscious dying, and create comprehensive end of life plans for community members that support the practical and bureaucratic needs at the end of life. This is why I am reaching out for community support to raise funds for Death Doula Training in 2024. Going with Grace (GwG) is a respected training that covers the major pillars of death care – emotional, practical, legal, and spiritual. GwG prepares students to take the National End-of-Life Doula Alliance (NEDA) proficiency assessment, which is the only recognition of a death doula’s competency in the work and offers a badge of proficiency that holds international weight. I am aiming to raise funds in time to attend the in-person training in Lake Arrowhead, California on November 15-19. Here is a break down of anticipated costs: $1895 – GwG training curriculum $115 – NEDA proficiency assessment $652 – In-person training expenses TBA later this month; when additional registration details and amounts open, I will update my fundraising goal and page accordingly $65 – purchase of course books $100 – estimated amount of $ that will be deducted from overall funds raised for use of the platform Excited to build on the expansiveness of full-spectrum care work, and to share with the community all that is to come. Tlazokamati, gracias, thank you <3
