We are Crewe & District Cat Rescue, a small group of volunteers dedicated to the welfare of feral, stray and abandoned cats in Crewe, Cheshire and the surrounding areas. We are a non- profit group, self funded and reliant on donations and fundraising. Please read below the sad story of our latest admission, who is now known as Grandpa Ben! This beautiful boy had been straying for several months, being fed unknowingly by two different neighbours who each gave him the names "Ben" & "Grandpa" (so we thought he suited Grandpa Ben!). He is a huge, cuddly boy, big because he was never neutered by his irresponsible owner, hence why he's been doing what tom cats do....roaming the streets fighting, mating and adding to an already exploding cat population. As you can see, he has a very serious eye condition in both eyes called Entropia.....his lower eyelids are turning inwards, sticking to and scratching his eyes...they're now very painful and infected. We've cleaned them up and made him more comfortable but he needs an operation to correct the condition which will cost a staggering £1800. We've already made a start on improving his health....he's now neutered, microchipped to our rescue, vaccinated and CITE tested to check for FIV and FeLV, thankfully negative, which is a miracle considering the life he's been leading. He's eating like a horse and is just starting to enjoy his warm, comfy bed, something he's not had for a very long time. We want to give Grandpa Ben every chance to find a loving new home, but he desperately needs the surgery to prevent further damage to his eyes. Our vet bills are already immense from all the other cats we take in and we are almost stretched to breaking point.....we are fundraising at every car boot sale, every village fayre, anything we can think of, desperately trying to get more funds to help this gorgeous boy, because his condition is so urgent. With your help, we can end his suffering so much quicker....he'll feel like a new cat when his eyes are no longer scratchy and sore.
