Update- we are having a celebration of Matt's life on August 20th from 1-6pm at the Sandwich American Legion. 20 Main Street Sandwich, MA. Hi my name is Sarah Daly, my long time fiancé Matthew Berthel passed away suddenly after a short battle with lung cancer. He was a great man who was very generous and would help anyone. He was just diagnosed in May of this year and we thought he had more time as he was going to start chemotherapy the day after he passed. He stopped breathing in his sleep Sunday night before he even had a chance to start chemo. I would like to give him the send off that he deserves. If you knew him you know he would give the shirt off his back for anyone, and probably did for most reading this. He was only 45 years old and didn’t deserve the cards he was dealt. I have posted his obituary below which describes who he was and how much he meant to his loved ones. Any help would be appreciated, or just prayers as we all know times are tough. We have booked the Sandwich American Legion 20 Main Street, Sandwich, MA for Matt's celebration of life August 20th at 1pm. Hope to see everyone there. Thank you so much for your generosity. Obituary It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Matthew L Berthel on July 9, 2024. He died peacefully surrounded by the people he loved the most at Cape Cod Hospital after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Matt grew up on Cape Cod. He had a life-long love of the outdoors. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He loved off-roading and his four wheelers. Matt loved music. He listened to all different types of music and played many different instruments (with varying degrees of success). He was an animal lover he would often say he liked animals more than most people. Matthew took great pride in his work in the heating and plumbing industry. He loved to solve problems and help people. He considered himself a boiler whisperer. Matt had an incredible sense of humor, he always had a witty comeback or comment. He loved to joke and have fun putting a smile on everyone’s faces. He also had a great knowledge of random facts and trivia. He was incredibly generous and would always lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He had a great love of life and enjoyed trying new things. He took pride in being the best cat dad to his fur babies Beenz and Penelope. He was an amazing loyal friend and loving supportive partner to his fiancé of 12 years Sarah Daly. Matt was predeceased by both of his parents Frederick and Dorothy "Dixie" Berthel, his grandparents and his father-in-law John S Daly. He is survived by his fiancé and partner for life Sarah Daly and her family Beth Daly, Rachael and Michael Palm and their children, Emily Daly and Jason Hayes, and Jack Daly. He loved being welcomed into the Daly family and was overjoyed to have our family to be a part of along with all of our extended family the Berrys, the Ducharmes and the Hutchins.
