Hello, my name is Arianna Hudson. I am a Missouri resident who recently graduated from Parkway South High School in 2024. I will be attending Jackson State University this fall and majoring in Criminal Justice, as I aspire to be a lawyer. Being raised by a single mom and being one of the first to attend college in my family I hope to show that there is another side to life than what we see daily. I want to make my family proud and be successful in hopes of encouraging those down the line to attend college. I’ve overcome a lot and want to show that I’m more capable than I think and show my family that we are more than the obstacles we face. I’ve always been one to speak up about how I feel and what I believe in especially when it comes to human rights. Going to a PWI, I experienced having to speak up for myself without being seen as the angry black girl, among other stereotypes. Going to an HBCU and being surrounded by students that have my experience would allow me to focus entirely on my studies. Studying Criminal Justice would help me in my main goal of joining the league of genuine lawyers. While attending school, I plan to be engaged in many organizations such as the mentorship program for first generation students and the freshman leader group. I’m excited at the thought of becoming a student leader and being a role model for my family. I’ve always known I wanted to attend Jackson State and have done everything I could to make it possible. I did a lot of research, applied for scholarships and communicated with anyone I could to make sure it was a great fit for me. It is inspiring to see those who graduated in a great place in life and I want to become a part of greatness within our culture. It also helps that the school has great resources for mental health, which sets my mind at ease knowing that I will have help if I need it. I’ve been dancing since I was little and it’s always been a dream to dance at an HBCU majorette level. I have seen the J-settes and been a fan for what they show on and off the floor. As I am committed to becoming a part of the team I plan to train as much as I can my freshman year to audition at the next chance. I have a lot of dreams and goals I want to accomplish, but none of that will be possible if I don’t ask for help. In order for me to attend I have a remaining balance of $6,000 left in tuition. I would appreciate any contribution to help me reach my goal, so that I can attend my number #1 choice. Thank you for taking the time to read this and to those who choose to give.
