Band Alumni, Friends of the band, the wonderful Clifton Community, we need your help. Help the Clifton Mustang Marching Band Travel to New Orleans in February 2024. The CHS Mustang Band Parent Association is seeking donations to help send the Marching Mustangs to New Orleans, where they will represent Clifton at several parades and jazz ensembles in February 2024. We need your help to contribute towards the $148,000 it costs so that the entire Mustang Marching Band can participate. While a large expense, the band will fundraise all year long to help ease the costs to our band families. The all-inclusive cost (including all meals and travel expenses) is $1850 per student. While some families can afford the expense, a large number of our families need extra support from the community to help offset the cost for these amazing Mustangs to send them on what will be such a rewarding experience! A memory and trip they will never forget. Any amount you can contribute will help our band family tremendously. Clifton High School is a large suburban school district in Passaic County, NJ with nearly 3,000 students in the High School alone. It is a very diverse community with nearly half of the students receiving free or reduced lunch. While some of our families will have no problems paying for the trip, many of our families will struggle to make the payments and several of our students must fundraise the whole amount on their own. Your support means the world to these students and families. BAND HISTORY The Mustang Marching Band of Clifton High School in Clifton, New Jersey, is unique among high-school marching bands. Modeled after the high-stepping, fast-paced style of the Big Ten college bands such as Ohio State and the University of Iowa, the band has never failed to bring the crowd to its feet in applause. This Fall (2024) the Mustang Marching Band will celebrate its 85th season. Prof. James A. Mascoti organized the Band in 1938 with thirty-nine members. Since then, membership has grown to over one hundred fifty at its largest, and presently the band is about 80 members strong. The Band enjoys an enviable reputation as one of the Nation’s outstanding high school programs; recognized for its precision marching and unique style reflecting the brilliant pageantry and showmanship which represents a long-time tradition of theme-based shows and “jazzy” musical styles. One of the band's most memorable numbers has been seen throughout the world and is its international calling card--the Script CHS. In this number, the band unravels from a tight block and writes out the school's initials on the field. Wherever they go, the Band is a goodwill ambassador for the school, city, state, and country, through the excellence of its performance, and the character and pride of the students who comprise the Mustang Marching Band.
