BE SURE TO PUT THE NAME OF THE STUDENT YOU SUPPORT IN THE COMMENT BOX!On Tuesday, November 10, the Cleveland High School band will have an 8-HOUR "LOCK-IN" and PLAY-A-THON to raise money for the band program. They are doing this beause they love music AND because they hope you will support them! Please consider giving:$120 ($15 for every hour they will play)$80 ($10 for every hour they will play)$48 ($6 for every hour they will play)$24 ($3 for every hour they will play)OR, any amount that you would like!Like every PPS H.S. the budget for the band is bare bones. We need help with funding for this year to make sure we can be successful today and build toward the future.Money raised through this effort funds TRAVEL & ENTRY FEES FOR COMPETITIONS, FIELD TRIPS, GUEST ARTISTS, SUBSIDIES for PERFORMANCE ATTIRE, and SOLO/ENSEMBLE REGISTRATIONS.Funding for music and arts in our schools is sorely missing. Children who experience music learn not just how to be a great musician, but also learn discipline and teamwork. Many studies show that music improves performance in other subjects like math and science.CHS currently offers Concert Band, Symphonic Band and Jazz Band classes, an IB Music course, and performs as the Pep Band at football and basketball games.We welcome our new Band Director, Gary Riler, who has great plans to grow and improve the music program and is building on the foundation laid by our former Band Director, Dan Foster, who retired last year. Gary would like to expand the program from the current offerings to three levels of band. Currently we have 82 participants and expect over 120 students as soon as next year.Last year CHS was the ONLY PPS high school to make it to the state band competition. And we are looking to build on that success!Each student has a goal of raising $100.
