Hi, my name is Tim. My husband/ partner of 23 years John (he's still here on my coffee table) has passed last October. He fought for 4 years. Being tough and determined till the end, he would bring himself to chemo while I worked. He almost was like he did not need any help. As a single widow household it is tough. He left behind Mark, the Frenchie and Harry, our rescue cat who has his own sad story. When we wake up every morning... we look at each other and are determined to give this another try. John has yet to find his final resting place. I still have yet to spread his ashes on top of the Empire State bldg (John: ... as long as the wind is not blowing towards Jersey). I hope to fulfill this wish so that he can achieve peace at last. There are so many ads educating us about cancers that are common like breast, colon, blood etc. I do hope that these rare cancers should share that category. Cholangiocarcinoma, cancer of the bile duct, is very rare but both my husband and a family friend got it. Statistics peg it as a 1 in a 100,000 probability. I also had coworkers who had cancer in that same region of the body. It might not be that rare. Most money allotted for cancer research are those like I said of the more common kind. There's the Breast Cancer awareness, St Judes for Children's cancer, and so on. I believe that these rare cancers should have the same importance so that funding to find the cure would happen. According to Cycleforsurvival.org, "Research for rare cancers is underfunded. But together, this extraordinary community of patients, doctors, survivors, caregivers, scientists, nurses, and supporters is making real progress possible for people around the world. 100% of the money raised goes directly to research at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK)." Together with small micro fundraisers like this... we can hopefully have a better and cancer-free future. Thank you for your time and donations. Every dollar counts.
