Calamity I come to you cap in hand. I am in need of help, I am trying to get more comfortable asking for help. My beloved banana van has suffered a tremendous blow on my French excursion. I am deep in the south with no way of getting home. Ordinarily, I’d have cut my loses and left the tin to the dust. However, I am in a position with a van full of belongings - instruments etc. Things I do not have enough hands to carry on to a flight..my books, my clothes, my collections. Be as they may, mere material possessions - they are my life. I am asking for help to return with my possessions and my guitar. The van was purchased over five years ago by myself and my sister Laura Barclay. It has done the rounds and served many a people. It has afforded me the freedom to travel and play to audiences beyond the British isles. It has afforded me a small income, be that moving people houses, accommodating fellow artists/musicians, and touring. It has served many a tour, this being it’s eighth. Diagnosis The clutch. The word I fear most around mechanics. I will not bore you with the specifics, but I am in need of a part for the clutch, which means we will need to take the gearbox apart to toy with the hydronic pump. A procedure which is going to cost 1k+. I ask for your help to pull me out a rut and give the banana wagon one final push. If I am successful in turning the wheels, it will enable me to finish my run of shows in France and return home where I’ll be holding a free show of my music at Glasgow’s Old Hairdressers for anyone who has been kind enough to donate (or not). I am scheduled to tour Ireland with Annie Lanzilotto in September with the van And later with Sweaty Palms and Objectified (Uk & France) This is not hobby, it is passion Open up your heart (and wallet) Love and respect Yours, Boab
