My beautiful sister Caitlin committed suicide just over a month ago - she was only 22yrs old! The grief from Caitlin's suicide has been the hardest to process. As it was so unexpected, you are not prepared for the suddenness and shock of it. You start to feel a range of emotions such as sadness, guilt, anger and shame and you start to question yourself as a person and as a family - what did we do that meant Caitlin couldn't speak to us? Was our relationship not as strong as I thought it was? Have we failed as a family? We've been so humbled by the support from friends and family and we'll be eternally grateful for everyone's kindness but there are families out there that are not so lucky and will have to process their grief on their own. In memory of Caitlin, we are raising money in aid of Papyrus Prevention of Young Suicide and every donation will help a young person to find a way out of their struggles and raise the awareness that asking for help isn't a weakness! Also, money raised will help support families process their bereavement. Over the year we'll be organising and participating in fundraisers to help highlight the amazing work Papyrus does and this LFEBridge is the first step in raising money for the charity.
