September is around the corner, and we are all looking forward to seeing our kids flourish at Nyack Montessori for another year! The opportunity for the kids to spend time playing together outside in the schoolyard is an important and fun part of their school experience. Last year a number of parents expressed concerns about the decade-old loose-fill rubber surface in the play yard — the residue left on the kids after playing in the yard was inconvenient to wash off and a number of families shared concerns about health implications. In response to this feedback, a group of us came together with Dharani and Girish to come up with a solution and we are hoping the Montessori community will come together to help us bring the plan to fruition! The Solution: Montessori dad Ellis Isenberg (who has experience with this type of project through his company Tri-Lox) worked closely with Dharani and Ghirish to explore various options for a new play surface. After reviewing a number of options they landed on synthetic grass as the best match for the school's needs. Ellis shared that his company installed a similar product for this NEST installation at the Brooklyn Children's Museum and has been impressed with its durability and feel. Nyack Montessori has committed to installing this new surface the week before school begins! We are thrilled that our kids will have a safe, soft surface to play on beginning at the start of the year! The Need: Nyack Montessori has allocated $15,000 of its budget toward this project. However, the total cost of building out the new play surface will be $27,600. We are organizing a fundraiser to cover the difference between what the school has in the budget and the actual anticipated costs. With 100% participation from the MCN community contributing at all levels, we are confident we can reach our $12,600 fundraising goal. Please give on our LFEBridge page and share this with anyone in your network who might be interested in supporting (grandparents, extended family, professional connections, local businesses, social media etc.) Note that should we exceed our fundraising goal any overage will go towards needed materials for our kid's classrooms. The Celebration: Save the date for Saturday, September 9th! If we reach our goal we will be throwing a party for everyone in the Montessori community!
