Who am I? My Name is Lórcan. I am a country queerdo, actor, drag artist and writer from the gorgeous hills of Donegal (cute accent included). My work blends a unique style of music and comedy with a politcal twist, exploring what it means to be Irish. During the pandemic I received a small bursary from An Grianan Theatre to make a show about growing up queer in the countryside. A million drafts later and a long journey from kitchen sink drama, to queer theatre, to cabaret and beyond; I have finally landed and written my first show "Songs of Theys". It has been programmed for a major Irish festival, but we are not allowed to publicly fundraise once the embargo lifts next week so I am trying to raise some funds quietly and quickly. Why am I making this show? "Songs of Theys" was created as a way to confront catholic guilt and reclaim my love of choral singing. Ireland may have voted yes to marriage equality but there are still institutions like the catholic church that don’t accept us. "Songs of Theys" is a church for the queers, it is a church for the people, it is a church for NOW. In a world made for hymns we are the theys. What is the show about? Extravagant robes dripped in gold, sacramental wine and putting other people's bodies in your mouth…Mass or a Gay Bar? This show doesn’t just blur the lines between the two it sticks them in a blender and serves the audience a delicious smoothie that leaves them feeling revitalised, energised and ready to dismantle the patriarchy. Queer theatre never looked so ethereal. A queer mass with choral singing at the centre, readings from the gospel according to Lady Gaga and a menu that serves only the body ody ody of Christ, this is a service not to be missed. Where will my money go? The show as it stands is almost completely unfunded.
