Hi, my name is Tom Nelson and I am fundraising for my new company WeGotUs 1st Inc. WeGotUs offers a unique program that helps middle to high school student-athletes, by providing assistance with tuition for private schools and college while teaching and educating them about financial literacy. There is a strong link between financial literacy and financial wellness among African-Americans. Those who are more financially literate are more likely to plan and save for retirement, to have non-retirement savings, and to better manage their debt; they are also less likely to be financially fragile. Our curriculum will teach them about how to create financial success. I grew up in Portland, Oregon and Los Angeles, California. I spent a lot of time trying to find my place in this world. I had. a lot of help becoming the man I am today and decided that I would dedicate my life to helping others achieve their goals as I have mine. My next goal is bigger and loftier than I would have ever imagined. I want to create a network of organizations and professionals to help athletes become professionals, either in professional sports, coaching, finance, technology, etc. We need a place that can help train the mind, the body and the soul to achieve more than we have ever imagined. We need to help us get there. As I build this company we will grow together. My team is strong, knowledgeable and passionate about the pursuit of excellence. We will use the funds to create an online program that will allow the students to review, redo and learn basic but important principles of personal finance. We will create in-person workshops to have that hands-on portion, where questions can be asked and ideas passed on to other students. We will help students with tuition, materials, trips to financial institutions and wall street. We will use a portion of the money to help with the mind and talk about the psychology of investing, saving, and planning. I have developed over 100 student-athletes to attend and play college basketball, become managers, and work for college sports programs. I now want to develop savvy investors with great budgeting skills, great credit habits that properly plan to be ready for life's ups and downs.
