We are stroller running to fundraise for Black Girls Code! The Challenge: 1-year old K and his dad Jubin will run 2500 miles on their running stroller in 2024 to raise $2500 for Black Girls Code. 2024 has been a thought-provoking year: 2024 has been a truly challenging year for all of us. Through the pandemic, the recession and the wide awareness of need for social justice, not to mention the continuing climate crisis - it raises the simple question - what sort of future do we want to build together? K came to 2024 with a few months in age and a few runs on the stroller. As 2024 progressed and world around us rapidly changed, we had one constant - the runs in the park every day - K missed his friends from daycare and made new ones in birds, squirrels and doggies in the park. The pandemic and the events of the year has shown us all that the opportunities we have are different, however what we can do with them for ourselves and those around us can make the difference. The luxuries, opportunities and freedoms we take for granted have been built on the shoulders of those who came before us. We have to make the change we want to see. We have to sacrifice to make it better for others. Running 2500 miles in 2024: With these thoughts in mind, K and I have set ourselves a target of running 2500 miles on the running stroller together by the end of the 2024. We will also attempt to cross 100,000 ft of elevation as we do this. We wish to raise funds to donate to our favorite charity - Black Girls Code - who are helping make the kind of change we would like to see. We have raised our target to $10000. Bloomberg will generously match every dollar donated doubling the contribution! I wish that as K grows he looks back at this time with his mommy and daddy fondly and realizes that it is important to do one's bit to make a change we want to see. After going through so many deserving causes, we thought that education and access at an early stage deserve the most attention. Black Girls Code: Black Girls Code hopes to provide young and pre-teen girls of color opportunities to learn in-demand skills in technology and computer programming at a time when they are naturally thinking about what they want to be when they grow up. -K, A & Jubin
