UPDATE 7/26: Hi! My dog bean is a 2 and a half year old Australian Shepard from Maryville, Tennessee. He’s the sweetest boy who loves to snuggle with all of his friends and family! He has always been a fairly healthy boy up until last Friday, July 7th. I came home from work and he immediately threw up as I walked in the door. I noticed a few other piles of vomit and that his body was shaking. I offered him a piece of food just to see if he’d eat it and he wouldn’t. That’s when I knew something was very wrong as he’s a huge foodie. I took him into his primary vet to have x rays and lab work done of his stomach. They found that he had bloat and his stomach had partially flipped. Upon this diagnosis, they advised us to go to the ER asap. The ER confirmed the diagnosis and began pushing lots of IVs and medications for him. His repeat x rays looked better so they were feeling confident that night that he may be able to come home Saturday morning. When Saturday came around, they called saying he began to have labored breathing. They asked me to come in and look at him to see what I thought. This was the worst I’ve ever seen him. His eyes were rolled back and he was slowly pacing in circles and not himself. He had a high fever and was breathing very loudly. They began a chest x ray and some diagnostic testing to see what was going on. That’s when they diagnosed him as having aspiration pneumonia. He became oxygen dependent and needed supplemental oxygen for 2 days. On Monday morning, they said his pulse ox had finally become stable enough to be sent home. I picked him up Monday morning and noticed he still wasn’t his best. He coughed up more blood and wasn’t eating his dinner. I noticed he became extremely hot later that night and was rapidly panting. I took him back to the ER and they repeated his chest x ray to compare. His x ray is now a lot worse and showed pleural effusion and worsening pneumonia that had filled his lungs. His new x rays were sent off to a radiologist to confirm. They proposed 4 options to what he may have: lung lobe torsion, ruptured abscess, severe pneumonia, or lung cancer. As of Tuesday morning, he is set to have a CT done to further confirm his diagnosis. He went under anesthesia Tuesday afternoon for a better look at his lungs and the cause of all this. After multiple second opinions, they believe that he has necrotic tissue in the lungs from how aggressive his pneumonia has been. Beanie went into surgery on July 12th to remove 2 lung lobes of dead tissue. He made it out of surgery and is doing okay! He has a pretty big incision on his chest, and some chest tubes that were placed to help him breathe for a couple days. He was hospitalized for 3 more days post-surgery so that they could monitor him and ensure he healed properly. As of 7/26, he has been home and doing extremely well! He finished all 6 of his prescriptions, has gotten his energy back, and even got his cast off! He will return to the Vet ER on August 2nd to have his staples removed. This has been an extremely stressful and tough time for Bean and his family, but we are so grateful for all of your help. Your donations will help cover: his nightly stays in the ER $3,000 (5 days+), the CT at $2,000, and his surgery of $7,000. The vets have comped a lot of the diagnostic testing, but the medical bills are still extremely high. I am asking for any assistance possible to help pay off the remaining medical bills. He is my best friend and my entire world and I am so thankful for all of the support we have received so far! I am extremely grateful for any financial assistance as well as any prayers or love sent beans way. Thank you so much❤️
