Hi everyone, Thank you for taking the time to visit Bat's fundraising page <3 Unfortunately, Bat is in the midst of a medical emergency, and after three emergency vet visits and a hospital stay, we are humbly asking the people who care for us to consider helping us to care for sweet Bat. Last week, Bat stopped eating and became extremely lethargic. Our vet advised us to take her to the emergency vet, where they ran a number of tests. The results were inconclusive so they sent her back home to us with some nausea medicine, but within a few days, she stopped eating again. Back at the emergency vet, they found her blood sugar was dangerously low and she was at risk of seizures. Her scans also found an abnormal mass in her stomach, and her bloodwork showed she was fighting a major infection. They told us the prognosis did not look good and to mentally prepare for cancer even though she is only one year old. They sent us to a specialist vet in Fairfax. He was able to do an ultrasound and rule out lymphoma, as well as a number of diseases, but Bat is still very sick and we don't have a diagnosis. Once her blood sugar was stabilized, they sent us home with drugs to stimulate her appetite but we are waiting to see if she will start eating again or if she is too sick to stay at home. In addition to the emotional toll, we are extremely worried about the financial strain of this care. The vet bills just this week have amounted to $6,480. These costs include over $1,600 for her initial emergency visit, xrays, medication, and bloodwork; $3,400 for overnight hospitalization, another round of x-rays, insulin, IVs, and medication; and nearly $1,500 at the specialist hospital for an abdominal ultrasound, emergency triage, uranalysis, bloodwork, and medication. Any help at all would be so incredibly appreciated. Bat is a part of our family and we want to do everything we can to help her. We rescued Bat from a parking lot last October, where she was dumped as a skinny and scared kitten. It has been so wonderful to watch her come out of her shell, and see the funny, curious, loving, and special cat she is. I work from home, and Bat is my constant companion. She wakes me up every morning and stares at the window until I open the blinds so she can birdwatch. She then moves to the living room to sleep next to my desk during the work day. She is a funny girl, and she's not 100% sure about people but I know she trusts me and that is the most special feeling in the world. And as much as we take care of her, she takes care of us. When Libbie had mono, Bat laid in bed with her all day making sure she was okay (even though Bat does not like warm fuzzy feelings or cuddling of any kind). Whenever I have insomnia, which is unfortunately fairly often, I will come out to the couch and she will sleep on my chest to help me fall asleep. She knows when we need her, and she's always there. Thank you again, and please don't hesitate to reach out to me with any questions. Love, Acadia
