Hi, my name is Simone and I am fundraising for an aid and discovery trip to Kenya. I will be travelling with friends from my school, St George Catholic College in Southampton - UK, which facilitated this volunteering and discovery trip making leverage on the expertise of the charity African Adventures. The charity we will be working for is a non-profitable one and most of the money raised will be used to help build new classrooms and facilities of schools located in the slums of the city of Nakuru. The volunteering roles include building, teaching (English, maths, music, etc.) and coaching new sports and games. Alongside the above, we will participate to eye-opening experience in the Maasai Mara National Reserve including visit to the elephant orphanage and to the local community. In line with the ASPIRE values of my school, I really wish the children and families from disadvantaged areas of Africa to secure a better future and strongly believe that good education, in a growing and expanding world, is key. I understand that many obstacles have to be surpassed in achieving this but the aim is to contribute as I can in this occasion with the help they deserve, no matter how small it may be. “As long as poverty, injustice and gross inequality exist in our world, none of us can truly rest” Nelson Mandela For more information about our school, its core values and African Adventures see STGCC and African Adventures.
