Hi, my name is Trice Barto. I was a successful unscripted television producer. Storytelling was my life, and I loved it! Then, seven years ago, my world caved in. I suffered a severe stroke and only had a 50% chance of surviving for four days. Now, with the help of my friends and loved ones, my life is on track to start working again. And that’s why I’m reaching out to all of you; I need financial support to finish my college degree at USC. More about that later. First, I need to tell you about my stroke. The stroke created a golf ball-sized area of damage to my brain. The right side of my body was paralyzed. I couldn't walk. I also couldn't talk or read! Pretty tough for someone whose life revolves around storytelling; it was awful. But I was happy to be alive. Matt Kunitz was the creator and showrunner for Wipeout, where I headed the editing and story departments for the entire series. Six months after my stroke, Matt invited me to hang out in his office for one day a week, EVEN THOUGH I could barely talk! He believed in me. It helped me to heal - not only physically but also emotionally. For three years, I was with him, working side-by-side with some incredible people I have known. I was determined that my disability would not stop me from achieving my goals. Long ago, I didn't finish my degree at USC. About four years ago, I decided that I was going to go back. At first, my speech was not strong enough; I couldn’t even say my goal out loud! So I kept my eyes on the prize and kept on working through years of physical and speech therapy. NOW, I CAN TALK! And I am thrilled to announce that I am currently enrolled at the USC School of Cinematic Arts! I am passionate about telling stories that highlight and help people - like me - face the physical, economic, and emotional challenges of living with a severe injury or illness. USC is the number one film school in the nation, but it's pretty expensive, and my medical bills have been insane! Sadly I'm not eligible for financial aid because I own a house. Renting out my house is the only income I have. I humbly ask you to support me and my educational goals by contributing to my LFEBridge page. It has been a long road, and I have come a long way. With friends like you by my side, I am better and stronger than I ever thought I could be, and I’m so excited to keep moving forward! Thanks so much for any help you can provide! And fight on!
